Prana
Literally meaning outgoing moving air, this is first of the five-vayu subdoshas and is responsible for respiratory functions and regulating inhalation.

In Sanskrit Prana stands refers to a vital, life sustaining force of living beings and vital energy in natural process of the Universe

1) Life-force energy
2) One of the subdoshas of vata
3) Breath
4) One of the energies controlling the functioning of the subtle body (the other two are tejas and <a href="http://www.shareayurveda.com/ayurvedic-dictionary/glossary/ojas/">ojas</a>); the energetic template of vata responsible for circulation within the subtle energy field and for the movement of the subtle body through the subtle
universe.

<strong>What is Prana?</strong>
Prana forms the central concept of Ayurveda and Yoga, in both the sciences it is believed to flow through a network of fine subtle channels called the NADIS

Breathing and PRANA
According to the Yogic philosophy breath or air is merely a gateway to the world of Prana and its manifestation in the body

Prana is the fuel on which mind depends on its function where as breathing fuels the body tissues by oxidation
